5 Axis CNC Machining
CNC stands for computer numerically controlled. A CNC router is a computer controlled router that allows accurate cutting of many materials. A CAD drawing is first created in order to represent the part that is wanted. This file is then brought into another program, called CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing), which is used to assign cutting strategies to the part. The programmer changes many variables such as tools used, speed of cut, and cutting strategy that determine the part quality and the amount of machining time involved. More machine time usually produces a better surface finish.
